I am a Beeswax Encaustic artist. Encaustic painting is an ancient artform. I have been a candle maker for some years and love what can be achieved with wax. Beeswax is a beautiful medium to work with.
The common theme in my work speaks for itself I think, there is nothing conceptual or intellectual about it. I like nature and natural environments. After living by the sea for 5 years I couldn't help but be inspired by the colour and texture. In Victoria we get these great big skies with amazing cloud formations especially around Geelong and the Bellarine Penisula where the landscape is flat, minimal and ethereal with low slung horizons. I see it all in cinemascope. You put a frame around it and all the abstraction occurs naturally. I don't paint specific locations instead I use composites of memory and peripheral, I attempt to convey the overall feeling of an area.To me the paintings are vistas or windows to the world outside beyond the cities and suburbia. I like the idea of bringing the outside in.
